3 - 4 pm (CET)

Preserved by the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D., Pompeii is a unique archaeological site of exceptional preservation. While the houses of Pompeii have long fascinated researchers, recent attention has focused on the small everyday objects found in the various rooms of these houses.

This talk will focus on the small find catalogs from two prominent Pompeian houses, the Casa del Fauno (VI 12, 2) and the Casa di Giulio Polibio (IX 13, 1-3), and will address key questions such as the interpretative potential of find assemblages for reconstructing the use of space in these houses, the duration of this use, and the extent to which such reconstructions can shed light on living conditions shortly before the eruption of Vesuvius.
