Chronoi Talks: “Constructing Second Millennium BC Chronology in Northern Mesopotamia” (Hybrid)
Glenn M. Schwartz
July 18, 2024
3 - 4 pm (CET)
Venue:
Einstein Center Chronoi
Otto-von-Simson-Straße 7, 14195 Berlin
This talk will discuss the problems involved in establishing a relative and absolute chronology in "virgin" archaeological territory. The evidence from recent excavations at Kurd Qaburstan in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq will be considered, with particular emphasis on the uses of pottery styles and radiocarbon dates. Challenges involved in the uses of terminology, recognizing periods and phases, and in establishing connections with adjacent sites and regions will be explored.
