Dr. Cornelia Logemann

June 12, 2025

Venue:

Einstein Center Chronoi

Otto-von-Simson-Straße 7, 14195 Berlin

Dr. Cornelia Logemann

Lavish luxury objects from the Middle Ages often decorated festive events – drinking vessels, table fountains and jugs were popular collectors' items, often depicting scenes from recent literature. But it was precisely these stories about Tristan and Isolde, Aristotle and Virgil that often required specific literary knowledge, which changed rapidly over time. Motifs were quickly considered outdated or were recontextualized. Selected goldsmith objects from the 14th century will be used to discuss this dynamic relationship between long-used objects and changing audiences.
