Biography

David Nirenberg is Dean of the Divinity School and Deborah R. and Edgar D. Jannotta Distinguished Service Professor in the Committee on Social Thought, the Department of History, and the Divinity School at The University of Chicago.  He studied at Yale University and Princeton University. His research has focused on the ways in which Jewish, Christian, and Islamic cultures have constituted themselves by interrelating with or thinking about each other.  His books have received multiple awards, including the Historikerpreis der Stadt Münster, and he has held fellowships at numerous institutions, among them the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin.  He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and an associate of the Max-Planck-Gesellschaft.
